“I wrote this because I wanted to share my story in the hopes of helping others discover that it doesn’t have to be the way it is. My family had 3 cars, one for me, one for my husband and one for our kids. Considering I only drove around town, paying all that money for a car didn’t make any sense. I decided to get rid of my car and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. I replaced it with the Flux EM1 and the amount I pay now for insurance for a year is what I used to pay for a car for a month. The Flux EM1 is 10% of the cost of the car and, since it is electric, there is no maintenance or gas cost. Even including the moped cost, I’m saving close to 90% over 3 years. It’s not even about the money, it’s about taking control of my life. You ever drive a car somewhere and not know how you got there? That happened to me all the time. That doesn’t happen to me anymore because I’m in charge. I take the backroads, listen to the birds and every ride is different. People told me the weather would be a problem, but it isn’t, at all. I ride in the winter when the roads are clear and if I don’t want to ride that day, my spouse takes me. We still have two cars. It is just that we didn’t need three.”
Subtle changes can have a huge impact. Would you like to waste money and let your car drive you or save money and take control?
I believe it doesn’t make sense to drive a 4,000 pound vehicle a mile to get a quart of milk. I am not saying that cars don’t have their place, they do. However, with the continued increase of the price of both new and used cars alike, combined with the volatility of gas prices, the extreme expense of car insurance and maintenance, in addition to the irritation of parking (in some locations), it does not make sense to have 4 cars for a family of 4 anymore. We talked with people, we listened and discovered that a lot of transportation is only short distances. People told us they wanted a motorized form of short distance transportation but that a car is overkill. What are the alternatives? Bicycles don’t work everywhere, public transportation is spotty and uber adds up. The Flux EM1 is an electric moped that tops out at 38mph and gets up to 50 miles per charge. It is a blast to ride, easy to park, reliable and extremely low maintenance. It is the perfect fit to get around short distances.
At a time when new technologies are making life more difficult and complicated, we built the Flux EM1 to be a vehicle that helps people to live a simpler life in a more economical way. A lot of people say that this is a great fit for college students and city dwellers, and that is true, but the Flux EM1 is for ANYONE who can take surface streets and has a one-way travel distance of less than 13 miles. As a commuter or a vehicle for around town, we have sold to: RVers, health care professionals, dental professionals, real estate professionals, restaurant professionals, teachers, librarians, pastors, police officers, fire fighters, university workers, government workers, postal workers, remote workers, small business owners, parents of high school students, empty-nesters, retirees, and the list goes on. It turns out that people from all walks of life benefit from having a Local Ride.
